U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS)
Immigration Agencies

The recently-formed Department of Homeland Security (DHS) created several agencies that oversee services previously provided by the now-defunct Immigration and Naturalization Service and other agencies.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) provides many of the immigration services that were previously provided by the Immigration and Naturalization Service. To learn more about the USCIS and its services, as well as to check the status of your case, obtain forms and instructions, and find other valuable immigration information, visit its website at www.uscis.gov.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) took over border protection services that were previously handled by the Department of Agriculture, the Immigration and Naturalization Service, the Border Patrol, and the U.S. Customs Service. To learn more about the CBP, visit its website at www.cbp.gov.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is an investigative arm of the DHS involved in the enforcement of federal immigration laws, customs laws, and air security laws. To learn more about the agency, visit its website at www.ice.gov.
