Income Guidelines for Financial Sponsors In order to be eligible to financially sponsor an intending immigrant, the sponsor must have an income that meets a certain percentage of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) poverty guidelines. U.S. Armed forces personnel on active duty who are sponsoring their spouse or child must have an annual income that is at least 100% of the HHS poverty line. All other financial sponsors must have an annual income that is at least 125% of the HHS poverty line.
