New Form I-9: Employment Eligibility Verification

  NEWSFLASH:  DECEMBER 15, 2007

We are writing to alert you to the fact that the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has introduced a new Employment Eligibility Verification Form (Form I-9). Employers must use the new I-9 form immediately for all new hires as well as any required updates or re-verifications for existing employees. Note that employers should not complete the amended Form I-9 for current employees for whom there is already a properly completed Form I-9 on file. The Department of Homeland Security may seek penalties against employers who use a previous version of the I-9 form starting December 26, 2007. Therefore, it is important that employers start using the new form right away. We have attached a copy of the new I-9 form for your reference.

You may access a newly revised "Handbook for Employers, Instructions for Completing the Form I-9, (M-274)" online at www.uscis.gov. anuary 31, 2007 U.S.
